Can I get my expired registration ticket dropped?

I got an expired registration ticket outside my house. The ticket says I was unlawfully parked but the ticket itself is for expired registration. BUT I wasn't illegally parked. Not by a long shot. Plus, he didn't write in my name or my address. Even though I had an expired registration - can I get this ticket dropped on a technicality - because it's not issued to me? Also, I don't think the NJ system cares if you got your registration taken care of afterwards. What do you think?
