Garbage disposal HELP!?

My garbage disposal got clogged today so i went under the sink and undid the pipes and let the stuff run out into a bucket. I thought everything would be fine after that but when i screwed everything back both sides of the sink were still filled with waster and crud. HELP! It says ISE Badger 1 1/3 horse power on the disposal.
