How can I escape skepticism?

The apparent incoherence of metaphysical naturalism/ physicalism does not incline me to put my faith in it, especially as the consequences appear to be nihilism/ hedonism and meaninglessness. I've been investigating Christianity over the last year or two and find the moral and cosmological arguments for God pretty compelling. However I can't accept the concept of Jesus' resurrection. Two questions really: first can one be a Christian without believing in this? Why does it matter whether it did or didn't happen? It doesn't seem very important to me; surely what matters is how we live now? And secondly if it does matter, how can a modern rational person reconcile him or herself to an unprovable historical supposed fact of this sort?
